Flap detectionΒΆ

Some networks have issues that allow a leg to come online before going offline again after a very brief amount of time. This causes problems with the performance of a bond. Keeping a flapping leg out of the bond until it stays online can prevent many quality of service issues.

Flap detection works by having a small increasing delay each time a leg would become online before adding it to the bond. Every time the leg loses connectivity the delay increases, up to a maximum of 30 seconds. Once a leg has remained connected for 30 seconds, the delay is reset to the initial value.
